On the Road To Improving Teen Driving Safety

Every ten minutes a teen crashes in New Jersey. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for young people in New Jersey and across the nation between the ages of 16 and 20. Teen crashes are most often the result of distraction, inexperience, speeding, and/or failure to yield. Teens represent the largest contingent of New Jersey drivers involved in crashes. They account for only six percent of the licensed drivers in the state, but are involved in 13 percent of the crashes. The New Jersey Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) program requires that a person under the age of 21 who has never had a driver’s license complete a period of supervised driving in three phases before getting a basic driver license. This panel discussion examines the GDL program, as well as other initiatives designed to increase teen safe driving practices.Guests include:Pam Fischer, Director, New Jersey Teen Safe Driving CoalitionEric Stenson, Corporate Communications Administrator, NJM Insurance GroupWendy Berk, Education Coordinator, Brain Injury Alliance of New JerseyNolan Rynecki, Manalapan High School Senior - Member Safe-A-Brave
